Welcome to my blog!

Merry Meet & Thank you for visiting!
This blog is all about all the things that make me up. I am a Mother, I am a Pagan Witch, I am a Wife, I am a homemaker, I am a student, I am Spiritual, I am a Teacher, I am Liberal Hippie, I am a Voter, and I am extremely opinionated! Plan to see it all! If you don't like what you see, feel free to leave! However, chances are, if you stick around, you'll find more to love than hate!

Blessings!

Deoderizing Disks

I like this idea, especially for diaper pails! BUT, I have made these for "shower disks" and suggest adding in a few table spoons of melted coconut oil just to help them stay together. Every time I made them without it, they crumbled and fell apart. You can still use them the same way, but they won't fall apart QUITE as quick.

How to make Cayenne Salve

I make a Cayenne Pepper Tincture and simply mix a few drops in with lotion to use it. It works wonders for joint and muscle pain. But I love this idea! I just don't know why I never thought of it myself! I would put this in a twist up tube and throw it in my purse for when I'm on the go - just don't use it on your lips! OUCH!

Home Made Granola

I love granola! But you can't really be sure what's in the box when you get the store bought stuff... So homemade is really the best option - plus, you can personalize it for each family member this way too.

Ingredients:
4 cups Old Fashioned Oats
1 cup Raisins
1/3 cup Organic Raw honey (or try 100% pure Maple Syrup)
1/3 cup Almond oil
1 cup Sliced almonds
1/2 tsp Real Vanilla extract (stronger than imitation)
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp Real Salt (or to taste)
1/2 tsp Cinnamon (or to taste)
1/2 tsp Allspice (or to taste)
1 cup dried cranberries
1 cup cashew pieces

How to PROPERLY Use a Spirit Board

Okay, we've all heard the horror stories and warnings about using Spirit Boards. I'm not going in to detail about how they work or anything here, but recently some questions came up about how to use them in the first place.

Now, I know many Pagans/Witches don't use them simply because their channel is so wide. But I also know many who do. Personally, I have a spirit in my home that will ONLY communicate via Spirit Board, so I do have - and use - one. That said, I have seen how easily they can "go south" as well.

So this post is NOT about if you should or shouldn't use one or anything else. That is for YOU to decide. However, if you do choose to use one, it's imperative that you do it correctly! While I personally do not view them as purely negative tools (as I know many do) I also do not believe they are toys. Like ANY tool or practice which allows you to contact the spirit realm they do not limit your contact to positive spirits or entities. So proper use is a must in order for safety.

Using a spirit board is not difficult, BUT should be done with care and respect. Rule number one, be smart. Remember that whoever you are contacting deserves the same respect that you would want.

Alright, lets get down to it...
How to use a Spirit Board:
Step 1. ~ Prepare the area. Remember that like attracts like, this is especially true in the spirit realm. If your space is full of negativity and anger, it will attract spirits with those same qualities.  Cleanse the area, use in a recently cleansed area or even in your sacred space. You MAY even choose to raise a circle. I also encourage you to burn a smudge stick throughout your session. White candles should be lit and any overhead or lamps turned off.

Step 2. ~ Prepare yourself.  Once you've taken the time to ensure that the space is free of excess negativity, it's a good idea to take a few moments to meditate and put yourself in a positive mind frame, free of stress or anger.

Step 3. ~  Affirm your intentions.  This not only puts out the "proper vibe" but helps to ensure that you "get what you came for." Remember, like attracts like.

Here's a basic one: "Spirits, This is a safe place! Only those with my highest good may enter here!"

You may wish to add something like "I'm here to have my questions answered" or "I'm here to communicate with the spirits of my home" or "I wish to contact my Spirit Guides." Whatever. But do your best to be specific.

Step 4. ~ Begin your session.  Remember to be respectful. The last thing you want is an angry spirit in your midst. Stick to positive questions and positive wording. Remember, the spirits don't know what YOUR future holds, so skip all the "Who am I going to marry" and "When am I going to die" questions. They don't know the answers any better than you do, and any answers you get will be guesswork at best. The purpose of speaking to the spirits is not to play a game or amuse yourself, it's a serious tool for gaining incite and/or information act like it!

Step 5. ~ Ending the Session.  Move the planchette to the "Goodbye" spot on the board and affirm the ending of your session.  ~  "I am saying Goodbye! I am Ending this Communication! I am Sending ALL non-physical beings back through the door and I am closing it behind them!"  ~  Using a White Cloth wipe the board front and back as you envision the cloth absorbing any (both + and -) energy from the board. If you have been burning a smudge stick, pass the board, planchette and the cloth through the smoke. Wrap the board in a black loth and put it away. Blow out any candles.
It may seem like a lot of work. But serious divination should always be taken seriously. Unlike most divinatory tools Ouija & Spirit boards are "wide" channels, and need both "focused" and "turned off."

Homemade Disinfecting Sprays

I do my best to keep a chemical free home. I am far from perfect, but I try. My friends and family, however, refuse to accept that there are healthy - chemical free - alternatives to their toxic sprays, soaks and soaps. That said, I have been ignoring their opinions for 30 years, why start listening now?  But one of the things I hear most is "You NEED to have Lysol around with all these kids!"  Well, No, no I don't! I can make this - and I am!

Elderberry Elixir

One of the first tinctures I ever made was Elderberry. I used it every day through cough, cold and flu seasons and any time I felt an illness coming on. I loved it! But, fortunately, I ran out and haven't gotten around to ordering more Elderberries. It may seem strange that I said that was a good thing - BUT - had I ordered it earlier I would have had to wait to make this Elderberry Elixir from Cauldrons & Crockpots.

If you can use a measuring cup, you an make this. But don't let the simplicity fool you! This is a potent Elixir that will, without a doubt, cure what ever ails you!

Elderberry Immune Elixir Ingredients:
  • 1 cup dried elderberries.
  • 1/2 cup dried elderflowers.
  • 1/4 cup dried mullein leaf
  • 1/4 cup dried boneset
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, chopped
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom
  • Peel of 1/2 lemon
  • Alcohol of your choice
(I like Whiskey or Vodka, but you can use whatever you like)
  • Raw Honey
(The author states that any Honey will work, however this is NOT something I would agree with since most store bought honey is NOT real honey and has NO health benefits! Do yourself the favor of using Raw!)

Connecting to the Power of Nature

The first book I'm reviewing as a part of the Witches & Witchcraft Reading Challenge is "Connecting to the Power of Nature" by Joe H. Slate Ph.D.

I bought this book around a year ago, as a way to fill up my $25 requirement for free shipping on Amazon. It was one that I had thought looked interesting, but wasn't on my priority list of what to read. So it got shoved on a shelf, and then in a box, and forgotten about. Until, that is, my daughter climbed in the closet and started tossing books all over my room. I had been looking for something to stick in the bathroom that wouldn't be TOO in-depth and wouldn't bother my husband (who is uncomfortable with Paganism & Witches).  I thought this book would fit those needs perfectly - and it did.

Now usually, it takes me ages to read through a book - especially one that I stick in the bathroom. I'm dyslexic and have three young children, a husband, a home, a blog, and a budding business... All of which take make it difficult to really get through a book quickly. Add to that the fact that books in the bathroom aren't really read the way a normal book would be. So imagine my surprise when I read this entire book in less than a month! Yeah, it was that good, I actually found myself hiding in the bathroom reading through this!

It's not a very large book, only about 170 pages. But it's packed full of great exercises, easy to read explanations and examples and better than that - it's full of real life experiences! I've read so many "Self Help" books, and felt like I was being talked AT, rather than talked TO. This book, however, was different. I felt as if it were written in a manner that not only made me feel secure in what I was reading, but in a way that made me feel as if the author was the kind of person who would sit down and chat with you if you needed help. Obviously, I don't know the author, but I feel like if I did meet him, he would happily guide me where I needed it.

I was a little leery when I noticed that the author had a Ph.D. in Psychology, sine I don't have a very good track record with Psychologists and my faith. - In fact I had one tell me that my "insistence in practicing witchcraft was simply more proof that I was not ready to handle the real world." At which point he wrote me a prescription and sent me on my way.  But the book was published by Llewellyn, so I thought it may be different.

Thankfully, I was wrong in my initial assessment! The book was clearly written by a man who had both a clear understanding of people and their needs, but also of the energies which surround us all. Many of the step-by-step meditations and activities were coupled with examples of how they have helped his students, co-workers and clients.

Whether you feel a connection to nature, or you are simply trying to get in touch, this book will take you by the hand and walk you through how to attune yourself with plants, trees, water, sand, clouds and more! Plus you'll learn how to use crystals, leaves and even a garden to better achieve your goals, let go of grief and fine purpose in life.

While the book may not ever use the term "Witchcraft" it is, in essence, teaching that most basic form of it. As a Witch - As a Pagan - I strive to create a world where I am happy, fulfilled and in touch with both myself and the world around me. The activities in this book provide the most basic tools for anyone to fulfill those goals.  Personally, I think this is a book that should be on EVERY young or newbie witch's bookshelf. And although it will be less of a "must read" for more advanced Witches, it is without a doubt something I would say everyone with children should read. These activities are PERFECTLY adaptable for kids, and would be great for helping them learn to connect with nature as a way to help them through issues or to achieve their goals.  But it's not just one that I would recommend for Witches, or even Pagans. I have a Christian aunt who is very interested in Holistics and Metaphysics that I would like to get a copy of this book for. It's concepts and activities are universal, and powerful!
